Corinne Scott Elementary School

Last week, we made a very interesting discovery in SIAA's large collection of uncataloged historical materials. A Springfield homeowner had requested images from the former Corinne Scott Elementary School (1926-1991), a Market Street building converted to condos in 2007. After a brief search, we found a box labeled with the school's name that contains bound scrapbooks and loose photos representing class photos dating from the early 1960s through the middle 1980s. On further research, we were able to determine that a former teacher, Ms. Dorie Sparkman, saved these photos from their library when the school closed and later donated them to SIAA's predecessor organization, the Springfield Heritage Education Center (SHEC), through its president, Rita Reagan. We are very excited to have these student and teacher photos from one of our neighborhood schools! Please let us know if you are interested in viewing this collection.

Main and Six Brewing - LUZ Meeting 10/18/16

Springfield Improvement Association and Archives would like to thank everyone for the incredible, overwhelming support towards Main and Six Brewing! With over 100 residents attending the LUZ meeting tonight and hundreds of emails sent to city council, we’ve shown how we can unite as a community and stand up for something important. This is a just one step towards a victory however we still need to continue to show support at the full city council meeting next week, 10/25/16. Excellent work Historic Springfield!
