The Springfield Improvement Association and Archives (SIAA) is dedicated to:

Enhancing the quality of life in Historic Springfield through beautifying its public spaces, providing volunteer service, and educating the community, while preserving its history.

The SIAA is currently involved in the following neighborhood activities:

  • Working with the City of Jacksonville and SPAR to improve and maintain the Main Street medians
  • Repairing/Maintaining the Klutho Park fountain and Gazebo/Bandstand
  • Preserving and maintaining the former Springfield Woman’s Club Building
  • On a case by case basis provide meeting space and support for local organizations.
  • Supporting the Main Street Cruise
  • Supporting the Springfield (Spring) Home and Garden Tour
  • Presenting the Annual Springfield Holiday Home Tour
  • Supported installation of the Carlon Robinson plaque in Confederate Park
  • Providing historical information through our website
  • Administer the online Facebook group “Historic Springfield Community” for neighborhood communication
  • Administer the Historic Springfield Community Calendar (www.historicspringfieldcalendar.org), a resource for residents providing a central place of all events in the neighborhood.
  • Supporting local causes and actions (e.g., Ability Housing)
  • Supporting For-Profit Organizations and Non-Profit Businesses through Social Media
  • Supporting the annual St. Patty’s Day Run at Evergreen Cemetery
  • Publish a community newsletter "Historic Springfield Community Connect"
  • Hosting the annual National Night Out with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office
  • Hosting quarterly Community Yard Sales
  • Helping send kids to Summer Camp
  • Supporting the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office HITZ (High Intensity Trespass Zone) Program - stopping transient nuisance crimes and helping transient substance-abusing persons into treatment rather than prison
  • Supporting the Springfield Garden Club in the restoration and maintenance of the Confederate Park Rose Arbor.
  • Administrating and supporting Historic Springfield Garden Club, offering monthly meetings
  • Poring over historic directories and papers to improve and update the information from the 1985 survey
  • Preserving and maintaining the former century old Springfield Woman’s Club Building.
  • Hold monthly open meetings with varying subjects, last one—showing how to research a house.
  • Publish a historic newsletter “Springfield Sampler”
  • Offer rental space in the building for weddings and parties, this bringing people into our neighborhood. Based on rentals we attracted 2,400 people so far this year.
  • Placing surveillance cameras on the gazebo which will cover four areas. This is for fountain security as well as gazebo, ballpark, and bleachers.
  • Answer many queries about the buildings in the neighborhood.
  • We have put in the area of $750,000 into the parks, done with grants and fundraising.
  • We are currently working on another historic project for the park.
  • Offering bricks, to be personalized, for placement around the fountain.
  • Reporting, Tracking, and Following Up on Municipal Code Violations to City of Jacksonville.
  • Provide daily volunteer support for community through phone, email, in person, and at building.
